Evan spent most of the morning giving me and his Nana big toothless grins. Talk about melting my heart. Watching him hit developmental milestones is always fantastic, but watching him grin at Mommy is just too much. It was a great day!!

February 26 -- Thank God for Nana

Well, Evan had a really tough night last night ... lots of gas & reflux. Poor little lamb. He went to bed at 8:30 but was up again at 3:30 to eat, then was gurgling and coughing and spitting all night after that. It was a very, very long morning with him. Nana got up with us around 6:30 and it was so nice to have her hands as I was already exhausted.

We got Evan together around 11:00 and then we were able to hit the road ... went to Target and the Container Store. Nana has bought Evan so many great things it's just silly.

Another vote for Evan for Baby of the Year: he had a terrible poopy diaper in the car at Whole Foods in Arlington and let us all know it ... however, after consideration, I couldn't change him in the car b/c the wind blowing in would have been too cold, so we had to drive back to our house from Arlington with him having a horribly dirty diaper. He barely fussed the whole way back, although he was clearly uncomfortable. Such a good baby. I honestly don't know what I have done right in the universe to deserve this terrific kid.

After that, Evan ate and then I got to nap for a little while. Another reason why Nana is amazing (other than the extra hands, all the cool stuff she bought for Evan, the loads of love & kisses she's showered him with, and the dinner she cooked tonight:) not only did she let me nap for an hour, but she let Evan sleep on her shoulder for TWO HOURS. didn't move, didn't do anything but let him sleep:

February 25 -- On the Road With Nana

Today Nana came to see us, yay!! She was SO excited to see Evan and he was such a good baby for her today. We rode all the way out to Babies R Us (again) and Harris Teeter and the dry cleaners with no fussing from Mr. Evan. He also showed Nana a lot of his tricks:

Playing with the teddy bear sent to him by Grandpa's staff:

I can be a good boy while Mom and Nana buy half the store for me!

February 24 -- On the Road Again

Well this morning it was too cold to take Evan out, so we just did things around the house. Evan was kind enough to sleep while Mommy took care of business:

However, we did fit in some exercise:

And looked cute on our blanket:

Then we tried a trip to Babies R Us in Falls Church and got hopelessly lost. Hopelessly. It took us almost 1.5 hours to get there!!

After that, we had our much-anticipated one-month pediatrician's visit. For those few of you who do not know, the first appointment with the pediatrician did not go well. If she was still horrid this time, I was going to pick up our records and leave, but to my delight the doctor was really nice this time. Thank God, I did not want to have to interview more pediatricians.

Some stats: Evan is currently 9 lbs, 11 oz, over 2.5 lbs from his birth weight! He is 21.75 inches long, up from 19.5 at birth. He has been pronounced very healthy and very cute by the doctor. ;) He does seem to get a touch of acid reflux at night, poor baby, so we are going to be elevating the head of his mattress at night on her recommendation to see if that helps.

Poor Evan after his hep B shot:

Guess what though -- he survived:

After that came dinner and Evan's favorite activity (kidding) -- bathtime!!

February 23 -- On the Road

It's late and I'm tired from our big day on the road. We had to go out to Vienna to get my cell from the Coyles house, and we got to see Auntie Lisa in the process!! Then a lunch date at Mama Ayesha's with Jess, home for a feed and a cuddle, then off to Ryann's for a playdate with Sawyer. Then home. Yeesh!! We've been all over the place today!! Evan was SUCH a good baby!! Hardly any fussing at all!! It was really great to get out and feel like a functioning member of society, for sure, but I functioned myself right out of circulation. It's 9:30 and I can barely keep my eyes open. Off to take a shower and then hit the rack.

At Ryann's house ... Evan at first wasn't too sure about borrowing her swing:

but he got the hang of it eventually.

Back home in his own swing:

I love hanging out with Daddy!!

LEAVING COMMENTS ON THIS BLOG

So many people have told me how difficult it is to leave comments on this blog, and I don't disagree. Finally though, I have figured out to make things a bit easier. I've turned off the requirement that you register an account to leave a comment, so you can now leave one as a guest. It will come up as "anonymous" but if you care to leave your name, that would be great.

I've also eliminated the requirement that you type in a code in order to leave a comment. Hopefully this will make it easier for all of you. Let me know if you have any more problems.

February 22 -- Exhaustion

Whew!! Last night Evan decided he just didn't feel like sleeping. He slept in his crib until 1 AM, after which Will moved him to the bassinet because our monitor makes so much noise (we're getting a new one). Note to self -- bad idea. Now that Evan has experienced the silence of his nursery, he doesn't sleep well in his bassinet anymore. Used to be that you could fire a cannon next to his bassinet but no more!! Every little noise wakes him now. So as soon as we can get a new monitor set up (and the movement monitor on the crib for paranoid Mom), into the crib with Evan. So anyway, it was a loooong night. But hey -- I'm still getting more sleep than most new moms, so I really can't complain. Much. ;)

We had to cancel a brunch with dear friend Carrie Sue due to snow and cold weather, but it warmed up in the afternoon enough to take Evan to see Grandpa and Auntie Lisa (Grandma is in California helping Aunt Elena recover from her header ... hope you feel better soon honey). Grandpa cooked us an amazing meal and was just wonderful with Evan when gas started plaguing him again. Grandpa is the new Baby Whisperer, I swear!! Evan was nothing but squirmy and whiny for Dad and Mom but as soon as Grandpa got him -- OUT!! Good job Grandpa.

Goals for this week are to get out EVERY DAY (no more cabin fever for me!!) and try to resume some semblance of a normal life, running errands and such. I'm more than 4 weeks post partum and it's definitely time. Tomorrow Evan and I are having lunch with Jess Philie at Mama Ayesha's, assuming that Evan doesn't melt down. Tuesday Evan has his pediatrician appointment, more errands and possibly a trip to Grampy's office. Wednesday the incomparable NANA arrives!! We are sooo excited to have her company -- and her help!

OK, back story for this one ... we had to take the inner head support out of the carseat since Evan has outgrown it, but he's still not quite big enough for the regular head support. So we had to put a rolled-up blanket around his head for extra support. However, he ended up looking like the newest member of the Baby Liberation Organization:

February 21 -- Quiet Day

We usually go out to the Coyles for the weekend but as Auntie Lisa is still a bit under the weather, we decided not to do that this weekend to be on the safe side. It was nice to have a quiet day at home just the three of us though. We didn't do much except for take care of some odd jobs around the house.

In other news, more reasons why Evan should be nominated for Baby of the Year: He went down at 8:45 last night, woke at 1 to eat, and then slept again until 6 AM!!! at one month old. Bless his little heart. Of course that meant there was not a whole lot of napping going on today, but that is OK. Since it was the weekend and a quiet day, Mom and Evan spent much of the morning just cuddling. It was sooo nice. As I'm getting more mobile and getting my mom sea legs underneath me, I'm finding that Evan is spending a lot more time in his car seat or hanging out in a swing than he used to, and while I am glad he will entertain himself for a while so that I can get things done, I do miss the near-constant cuddling from the early days. So it was nice to just hang out together under the quilt in the basement and catch up on my American Idol. Oh, and we read "Guess How Much I Love You" a few times, Evan tucked in the crook of my arm. It was so nice to be reading to my baby. Definitely something we'll have to do every day now that he is a bit more alert.

We also finally tackled The Beast -- the grocery store!! Although we totally cheated -- we took Dad with us and he loaded the cart ;) One day we'll figure out how to do the store together, but at this rate, probably not until he is sitting up.

It was a good thing Will was with us though, because Evan definitely expressed his displeasure with Harris Teeter. He didn't seem to care for Whole Foods either the other day, surprisingly. Maybe it's the lighting or something? But we spent much of the trip trying to placate an increasingly foul-tempered baby. I told him he had a rep to uphold but he didn't seem to care and cried and whined anyway, forcing me to bust out the off switch -- the green soothie:
